How we can help.
Whether you're an individual, a family, a community group, a council, or a business — there's something here for you.
Disaster Scout offers four ways to work together. All of them are practical, plain-language, and built from real operational experience. None of them involve jargon, boring slide decks, or advice that sounds good on paper but falls apart in the real world.
🙌 Workshops
Find what fits.
For communities, councils, schools, businesses or even individuals!
Hands-on, practical training sessions that leave people knowing exactly what to do — before, during, and after a disaster. Fun, engaging, and completely death-by-PowerPoint free.
From 90-minute community sessions to full-day business continuity sprints, we've got a workshop for most situations. And if none of them fit exactly, we'll build one that does.
What's on offer:
Ready Neighbourhoods — community preparedness in 2 hours
Plain-Language Warnings That Move People to Act — PIO and comms training
Disaster-Proof Your Business in 3 Hours — business continuity sprint
Your First 10 Days After Impact — recovery navigation
Build Your Own — completely custom, scoped together
💬 Mentoring
For those who want to build their own capability with guidance from someone who’s worked at the operational coalface.
Not a consultant who drops off a report and disappears. A partner who works alongside you until you've genuinely got it sorted.
I help you do it. The knowledge, the thinking, and the confidence but built by you, with me alongside.
I mentor individuals, councils, community organisations, emergency services, and businesses through the stuff that's hard to get right alone — emergency communications, preparedness programs, and recovery information that people can actually find and use.
What's on offer:
Rapid Comms Mentoring — rapidly improve your warnings and public information approach
Preparedness Program Mentoring — design and roll out a program that actually works
Recovery Info Hub Mentoring — build a recovery resource your community can navigate
For individuals, I can help you build your confidence in operational, coordination or communications role. Navigate career decisions and professional development. Help you develop your skills in emergency management and work through real challenges that you’re facing. And, help prepare you for new roles in EM, responsibilities and interviews.
🎓 Education
For anyone who wants to understand emergency information better

Free content on YouTube right now. Webinars and short courses coming soon. All of it designed to build your emergency literacy — so when something happens, you already know what it means and what to do.

🚨 Fractional Emergency Manager
For organisations that need real emergency management expertise without a full-time hire.
Most organisations know they should be better prepared. Few have someone in-house who actually knows how to make that happen. That’s where I come in.
As a fractional emergency manager, I work with your organisation on a part-time or retainer basis giving you access to senior-level emergency management capability without the cost or commitment of a full-time role.
This is hands-on, operational support. I’m not just reviewing documents from a distance. I do the work, and I help you build real capability, maintain it and be ready to use it when it matters.
What's on offer:
Emergency and business continuity plan development
Plan review, gap analysis, and practical improvements
Staff awareness sessions and emergency preparedness training
Exercise design and scenario facilitation
Crisis communications support and messaging guidance
Ongoing advisory and retainer arrangements
EOC activation support: if your emergency operations centre is stood up, I can step in and work alongside your team in a real event
Not sure which one is right for you?
That's completely fine — most people aren't when they first land here.
Here's a quick way to think about it:
You're an individual or family who wants to feel more prepared and actually understand what's going on when a disaster happens → Start with Education or a Workshop
You're a community group or neighbourhood that wants to get your street, school, or local area properly ready → A Workshop is your best starting point
You're a council, emergency service, or organisation that needs to improve your communications, build a preparedness program, or sort out your recovery resources → Mentoring is probably what you need
You're a business that knows it should have a plan but hasn't got there yet → Start with the Business Continuity Workshop
You're still not sure → just get in touch. We'll figure it out together.
Whatever you choose, here's what you can expect.
Plain language, always. No emergency management jargon. No technical speak. No assuming you already know what a Watch vs a Warning means. We explain everything like you're a smart person who just hasn't worked in this industry — because that's exactly what you are.
Real experience behind everything. Every workshop, every mentoring session, every piece of content comes from years of actual operational experience across emergency management in Australia and Canada. Not theory. Not templates from the internet. The real stuff.
Practical, not theoretical. You won't leave with something that sounds good but doesn't work in practice. Everything is built around how people actually behave under pressure — and what they actually need to feel confident.
Genuinely useful — immediately. Whether you're watching a five-minute video or working through a three-month mentoring program, the goal is always the same: you leave knowing something you can actually use.
